The first step for implementing AI in preventive maintenance is to understand the cause of low productivity and higher cost of maintenance. Once you find the reason of waste, inefficiency and exceeded cost, then the next step is to integrate the systems to get the data.
Because of the lower cost of smart sensors and more powerful execution of data combined with storage, IoT plays an important role in data acquisition. But also, it is possible to get the data from other field devices and automated systems, such as:
- PLCs
- Smart Sensors
- APIs
Once you get the data, the next step is data mining and understand what values and variables you are getting, what are their significance and to which device is that data relates to. Next step is to arrange that data in the specific datasets related to specific devices. This precise combination of data helps is making a robust predictive model and a better prediction.
After you get a precise result, its time to display those results. That’s where SCADA systems and HMI’s come to play. You may display the result to the maintenance team so they can take appropriate action before a failure occur or you may use messaging pipelines like Inductive Automation’s Ignition alarm notification module, to send the result of the analysis to management personnel such as maintenance manager via email or text messages.
Then the last step would be to do the secondary analysis on the bases of that result and coming up with plans and strategies for doing predictive maintenance to minimize the loss of the system and capital to be used on the maintenance of that automated system.
